Weekly Happenings and a BIG QUESTION!

Holy August! When did that happen!?

It has been an exciting week here at Stickerslug and we wanted to share some of our happenings with you!

This week we said goodbye to a dear dear friend of ours. Our Stickerslug stamp. This little guy lasted almost 3 years. RIP old friend. You will be missed.

While we were mourning the loss of our stamp, we decided to finally buy the Mac Pro! To, you know, expedite the grieving process. Or something.

I know it doesn't look like much (okay, it kind of looks like a fancy garbage can) but this thing is a BEAST

It doesn't have a name yet, suggestions strongly encouraged! :)

Being a small business owner, especially in a made to order business, you tend to acquire a bazillion files. Here we are trying to transfer everything over to the new computer. Don't let the coolness of this photo fool you, I want to rip out all of my hair! Tedious. As. You know.

We are also excited to announce that we will be hiring a new employee! We have expanded so much recently that it is time to bring someone new onto our little team!

If you happen to be in the Portland area, or know someone who is, you can check out the job posting {here}!

Just today we got our largest order to date! $637! WHAAAT!?!

Needless to say, we are still in shock. And super curious what this order is for!

And last but not least, today we may have found heaven on Earth. There's this little food cart in downtown Portland that serves grilled PB&J sandwiches. You read that right. Grilled. PB&J. That has got to be the ultimate comfort food! Am I right!?

We got 2 different kinds for the office!

The Joy - Peanut butter, chocolate ganache, coconut and almond butter. It tasted just like an Almond Joy! Mmmmmmm. Still drooling a tad.

The Cynthia - This one was more of a classic for the less adventurous in our office. Peanut butter, raspberry jelly and Nutella!

Move over Pita Pit. Looks like we have a new lunch time favorite!

Well that was our week! I hope you all had an amazing week!

QUESTION:
If we started a weekly linky party for small business owners that focused on the happenings of the week would you be interested!? Let us know below in the comments! We would really like to start a little small business community!

Laundry Room Make-Over {In Progress}

Guess what day it is!? That's right, laundry day. I love everything about laundry. The way it smells, how toasty it is when you take it out of the dryer, having clean clothes to wear. The only thing I don't like about laundry is doing it!

I also really really really dislike my laundry room. If you can even call it that. It's like a closet with a washer and dryer...and a cat box. It's small, ugly and smells like cat liter.

Seriously, even the lighting is horrendous. Just look at that. Or don't. That's embarrassing. I'm ashamed.

Since we currently rent (and are buying/moving soon) I don't really want to put too much effort into making over the "room" so I decided to start slowly adding in decorative pieces that I like. I figure if I make the space more inviting, maybe I will actually enjoy being in there and doing laundry!

I spent countless hours scouring Pinterest for some inspiration and decided to start with a DIY piece! Need a little inspiration of your own!?

Follow Stickerslug's board Stickerslug Loves Home on Pinterest.

I found this adorable wooden plaque at Michael's for $3.99 and then 40% off with my coupon! A steal of a deal! Check it out {here}.

I threw on some white paint. Cut and applied some text in light blue, because you know, light blue is calming or something. Threw on some ribbon and voila!

I love the way it turned out! It makes me smile every time I see it! Definitely a great start to making the laundry room more inviting!

Although, the saying isn't super motivating, especially during the summer months! ;)

DIY Canvas Art {Text}

So we are pretty new to this blogging/linky thing but we found a link up that seems perfect for us over at Gingerly made! It is a show and tell for crafts, food, fun, anything!

We have been known to get crafty from time to time so here goes our first link up! Click the link below if you wanna join in on the crafting fun!

Gingerly Made

So I got this idea one day at the beach with my mom while we were antiquing. If you’ve never gone antiquing, let me tell you, “shop ’til you drop” has never been more real. It is endless and at least once during the trip you will forget their is an outside world. Seriously, you go in, and by the time you come out seasons have changed and years have passed. There is just so much to see and it is all so different and one of kind.

My mom saw this one art piece hanging on the wall and fell in love. It was a piece of wood with a saying about parenting burned into it. It was rather expensive. I took one look at it and instantly went into "sticker mode" and I thought "I can totally make that!" I decided to try it on a canvas! The great thing about this project too is that it is so versatile and can be used for anything!

What you need:
- 1 canvas (I used a 12X24)
- acrylic paints of your choice + white
- paintbrush
- decal stickers (words or text) found here.
- a sharp tool (exacto, weeding tool, tweezers) to fix any mistakes
Time: Approx. 1 hr. (less if you have a simpler saying/design)
Here’s how ya do it
1. Apply the decal. Don’t worry about getting it perfect the first time, it can be moved around on the canvas. There’s a little trick to help it stick on canvas and since I’m feeling nice I will share it with you! ;)

Note: You may want to cut the decal into smaller, more manageable sections like I did. Trust me, this will make it MUCH easier to remove the application tape.

2. Remove the application tape. This is going to take some time. It is tedious because it is very important that you get it to stick properly before you add paint. As you peel back the the app tape, go slowly and use a tool (your finger works) to carefully separate the decal from the app tape to help it adhere to the canvas. Use 2 hands for this, I only stopped to get a photo.

3. Paint, Paint Paint! Don’t forget the sides. Let dry. Acrylic dries really quickly. But don’t worry, you definitely have time for a glass of wine (or 3).

4. Once dry, use a sharp tool to peel up the decals.

5. If you have any mistakes, you can use that same sharp object and some white paint to cover it up! I was surprised how well the white paint worked!

So now for the final product. Drumroll please…

Now on a scale from 1-10 how badly do you wanna rush out and make one of these bad boys!? A 12? Thought so. We'd love to see what you craft up!

Stick 'Em on Water Bottles

Okay, okay it's confession time.

I am the worst at drinking water. And by the worst, I mean no one in the history of mankind has ever been as bad as I am! It's a miracle I'm not dead.

Now, I know what you might be thinking. Just replace your other drinks with water. That would be great advice if I drank other drinks. But I don't. Like I said, miracle.

So awhile back I found this UH-MAZ-ING water bottle on Amazon. It's called a Hydracoach! And it is just that, it coaches you through your hydration.

You can get yours {here}

This bad boy allows you to set your own water goals, calculates how much you've drank throughout the day and helps keep you motivated!

Now the water bottle itself wasn't enough for me. While I've definitely been better, I'm still not drinking as much water as I should be.

So I decided to field of dreams my bottle. If you build it, they will come. And by "build it", I mean personalize it and by "they will come", I mean I will be more inclined to drink water. You get the idea.

I decided, why not a decal? After all, I'm practically swimming in them. So I grabbed a abandoned decal that we had lying around and slapped it right on there!

It was also kind of a science experiment if you will. You see, up until this point we had no idea how decals would hold up in the dishwasher. BUT I have been pleasantly surprised! I've had this decal on for almost 2 years and it hasn't peeled even a little bit!
